Patriot netters finish Blackford (09/14/06)

JCHS boys tennis

HARTFORD CITY - It took three days, but the Patriots came away victorious.

Jay County's boys tennis team completed its 4-1 win over the Blackford Bruins Wednesday afternoon. The match spanned three days after it was started Monday and later halted by rain.

The Patriots (8-3) swept the singles matches, with Josh Ludy and Phil Powell each cruising to 10-4 records on the year. Ludy topped Wes Ford 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Powell defeated Adam Durm 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

Kyle Simmons went three sets at No. 3 singles, rallying for a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 victory.

At No. 2 doubles, Mark Alberson and Adam Horn avoided a third set with a second-set tiebreaker win for a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) triumph over Matt McAfee and Craig Sumner.

Heath Rigby and Thomas McCowan fell to Michael Estep and Nick Baughey 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 1 singles.

Junior varsity

Jay County won all four matches against the Bruins, including a shutout in the only doubles match.

Hadmar Senk and Michael Daniels teamed for a 6-0 victory over Nick Ramey and Alex Williams.

Daniels and Senk each won by 8-2 score in singles action, topping Micah Adkins 8-2 at the No. 1 spot and Aaron Williams at No. 3 respectively. Jared Valentine scored an 8-6 win over Austin Ford at No. 2 singles.[[In-content Ad]]
