Patriot offense torches Winchester (05/09/05)

PORTLAND — The Winchester Golden Falcons led after the second inning Saturday, but that was as close as they would come to victory. The Jay County softball team outscored them 22-3 the rest of the way for a pair of wins in double-header action, 7-1 and 15-3 in five innings.
Game-one starter Brittany Logue held Winchester scoreless after the first inning and allowed just three hits while striking out nine batters.
Shae Keller continued the excellent pitching in the second game, giving up just one hit as two of the three runs against her were unearned. She struck out seven.
The Patriot offense came alive behind the strong pitching, scoring twice in the third inning of game one to take the lead for good. Freshman Trisha Champ keyed a three-run fourth inning with an inside-the-park home run.
Lisa Weitzel added two hits, an RBI and a run, Amber Champ singled and scored twice and Andrea Current had a double. Morgan Locke and Ashley Bunch each had a single and a run, and Saffron Redwine added a run and an RBI.
Erica Murray paced the Patriots (7-10), who scored nine runs in the third inning of game two as the onslaught continued. She finished 2-for-2 with a pair of runs.
Redwine scored four times, and Trisha Champ, Amber Champ, Chelsea DeBoy, Locke and Amanda Alberson each had a hit and a run.[[In-content Ad]]
