Patriot runners fall at Bellmont (04/07/06)
JCHS track
DECATUR — Amanda Johnson, Justin Gilbert and Dexter Shreve, all winners in Tuesday’s opener, each came up with victories again. But, the Braves and Squaws took almost everything else.
Johnson, Gilbert and Shreve accounted for four of Jay County’s five individual wins Thursday as both the girls and boys track teams lost to Bellmont. The girls dropped an 87-49 decision to the host Squaws, and the boys fell 98-34 to the Braves.
Gilbert was the lone double winner for the Patriots, eking out a pair of tight wins. He was first by just one hundredth of a second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.50 seconds, and won the 200 dash by three hundredths in 23.82.
He also anchored Jay County’s win in the 4x100 relay.
Shreve’s second straight long jump win, this time with a distance of 19 feet, 31/2 inches, was the only other individual victory for the Patriots boys. Bellmont swept a trio of events, and took the top two positions in three more.
Johnson took first in the 400 dash in 1-minute, four seconds to lead the girls team. She also teamed with Erika Hunt, Nicole Pfeifer and Tina Gingrasso for first in the 4x400 relay.
Lindsey Current, a freshman, had the other individual win for the girls team with a leap of four feet, 10 inches in the high jump.
Gingrasso, Alyssa Johnson, Jessica Mosier and Allison Fullenkamp teamed to win the 4x800 relay in 11:15.1.
Bellmont took the team win on the power of one sweep and four one-two finishes.[[In-content Ad]]
