Patriot softball slaughters Falcons (04/28/08)

WINCHESTER - Ten innings was all the Patriots needed Saturday.

Jay County High School's softball team racked up 38 runs in sweeping a double-header 22-0 and 16-4 over the Winchester Golden Falcons.

The Patriots (9-5) scored a run in every inning, including eight in the fourth inning of game one in which they posted their top run total of the season. They scored seven times in the first inning of the second game to take immediate control.

Amber Edmundson was on top of her game in the opener, pacing the offence with a triple and a home run. She drove in four runs and also scored twice.

Edmundson also earned the win, tossing a three-hit shutout. She struck out eight and walked only one.

Trisha Champ racked up a team-high four hits, including a double, while scoring four times and driving in a run. Tiffany Davis and Lindsey Wellman each finished 3-for-4. Davis had four runs and two RBIs, Wellman finished with three runs and two RBIs, and Kayla Phillips and Lauren Edmundson each scored twice.

Wellman and Phillips powered the Jay County offense in game two, each going 3-for-4. Wellman drove in five runs and scored twice, and Phillips had three runs and two RBIs.

Freshman Selena McKibben came off the bench for a double, a triple, three runs and two RBIs, and Davis and Alex Bunch each drove in a pair of runs.

Davis picked up her first win of the season as only one of the four Falcon runs was earned. She gave up three hits and seven walks while striking out six batters.[[In-content Ad]]
