Patriot tankers perfect

ANDERSON — The Jay County High School girls swim team placed first in eight events Thursday en route to a 112-71 victory over the Anderson Indians, improving to 5-0 on the season.
The Patriot boys also remained undefeated, topping the Indians 102-81 to push their record to 2-0 .
All three Patriot girls relay teams earned victories, with the 200-yard medley relay team — Sydney Mathias, Ashley Mark, Sophie Bader and Katy Smeltzer — nearly breaking the two-minute mark, finishing in 2:01.39.
Bader and Smeltzer were dual-event winners for the Patriots. Bader placed first in the 50 and 100 freestyle, and Smeltzer won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.
Sydney Mathias earned second-place finishes in the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle. Alyson Lucas also had two second-place finishes in the 200 and 500 freestyle.
The Patriots swept the diving event, with Heather Stinson finishing ahead of teammates Samantha Link and Lori Moon.
For the Jay County boys, James Keen (50 freestyle, 100 backstroke) and Josh Lykins (100 and 200 freestyle) were both dual event winners. Sophomore Sok Vormohr earned two second-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly.
All three Patriot boys relay teams also earned victories.

Spartans top Chiefs
The Muncie Northside Middle School Spartans seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams handed the East Jay Chiefs losses Thursday.
The Spartan eighth graders won 50-23 and the seventh graders defeated East Jay 45-17.
Collin Haines led the East Jay eighth graders with six points, and Zavier Lee added five. Seth Fugiette and Caden Stant both scored three points.
For the seventh grade Chiefs, Ryan Schlechty and Matthew Franks shared the team-high with four points. Elijah Corwin and Caleb Webster each had three points.

Selma sweeps West
DUNKIRK — Max Moser scored 11 points for the West Jay eighth grade basketball team Thursday as the Eagles dropped their first game of the season 38-32 to Selma.
The West Jay seventh graders also fell to Selma by a score of 33-23.
Holton Hill and Mitchell Ferguson both netted five points for the eighth grade Eagles, and Conner Davis added four points.

Cole Stigleman tallied three points, and Garrett Rodgers and Blake Steward each added scored two.

For the West Jay seventh graders, Gabe Faulkner scored a team-high 13 points. He also added two assists and one steal. Nick Raines and Wyatt Geesaman each tallied five points, and Geesaman grabbed five rebounds.

Stars rout Owls
BERNE — The South Adams High School girls basketball team had three players score in double figures Thursday as the Starfires routed the Muncie Burris Owls 69-27.
 Senior Alyssa Bluhm scored a game-high 19 points for the Stars, who held the Owls to single-digit scoring in every quarter.
Sharon Basliger and Sydney Willis added 14 and 12 points respectively for South Adams, who improves to a perfect 5-0 on the season.
The Starfires led 34-14 at halftime, and extended their lead to 57-21 entering the final period.
Kenzie Jennings added nine points for South Adams, who also got an eight-point effort from Dzejna Ahmetovic and six from Cindy In’t Groen.
Shade’ Kirksey led the Owls with 12 points.

Tribe falls to Jets
FORT RECOVERY — The Marion Local Jets handed the Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team its first loss of the season Thursday, defeating the Tribe 63-46 at the Fort Site Fieldhouse.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also fell to the Jets, 41-28.
The varsity Indians by one point going into intermission, but the Jets ran away with the victory, outscoring the Tribe 22-6 in the third period.
Tori Lennartz recorded her second double-double of the season for the Tribe, scoring 10 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Kendra Siefring had a team-high 14 points while grabbing five rebounds.
Kara Jutte also added 10 points for the Tribe to go with her four rebounds. Lennartz recorded a team-high five assists.
Marion Local’s Brook Winner had a game-high 20 points.
Whitney Will tallied seven points for the Tribe junior varsity team, and Hallory Luthold added five points. Kirsten Jutte and Katie Stammen each added five points. Mikayla Post scored three points, and Jocelyn Kaiser and Grace Gehle both netted two points, while Kaiser grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Macey Griesdorn led the Jets with 13 points.
