Patriot tennis moves to 2-1 (04/17/07)
JCHS girls tennis
Jay County's girls tennis team rolled to victory Monday, shutting out the visiting Winchester Golden Falcons 5-0.
Junior Megan Adams cruised off the court in her first win of season. She dominated Kelsey Hart at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-2, as the Patriots improved to 2-1.
Carissa Wilkins, a senior playing at No. 1 singles for the first time this year, kept her perfect record in tact. She defeated Melissa Humphrey 6-2, 6-3 and is now 3-0 on the season.
Fellow senior Jenna Valentine completed the singles sweep with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 win over Sarah Cox.
Cindy Muhlenkamp and Megan Knittle put gave up just four games at No. 2 doubles, defeating Olivia Baldwin and McKenzie Kirby 6-3, 6-1.
In the No. 1 doubles match, Jessica Muhlenkamp and Megan Huntsman scored a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Grace Wallace and Melanie Orr.
Jay County also dominated the junior varsity match to the tune of a 7-2 victory.
The Patriot JV squad came up with a pair of shutout victories.
At No. 2 doubles Michelle Landfair and Mizuki Saito blanked Gracie Rosson and Taylor Kirby 8-0, and at No. 5 singles Kayla Martin beat Gracie Rosson 8-0. Other JV wins came from Heather Ayers, Briann Saxman, Hannah McAbee, Mariah Clark and the team of Betsy Knittle and Brittany Lewis.[[In-content Ad]]
