Patriots 2nd at NC (01/28/08)

The top competition continued to bring out the best in the Patriots Saturday.

Jay County High School's gymnastics team posted its best score of the season Saturday, finishing with 96.675 points for second place in a three-team meet at New Castle.

The host Trojans, who are ranked eighth in the state, won with 107.775 points, and Blackford was third at 72.525.

Erika Hunt turned in the top effort for Jay County (8-3), which had its previous high score 96.025 came at the Valparaiso Invitational hosted by the No. 1 Vikings. She was fourth on the uneven bars with an 8.3.

Hunt also tied for fifth on the vault with teammate Kristen Ainsworth at 8.7, was sixth on the floor exercise with an 8.65 and placed eighth in the all-around with a total of 32.9.

Ainsworth was fifth on the bars (7.95), sixth on the balance beam (8.15) and seven on the floor (8.6) for a sixth-place all-around total of 33.4.

Stormi Metcalf was 10th on the bars (7.2).[[In-content Ad]]
