NEW CASTLE - Adam Gray led the Jay County High School boys golf team to a fifth-place finish Saturday at the New Castle Invitational.

The Patriots scored 333 at the 11-team event, finishing four strokes behind fourth-place Highland. Connersville, who the Patriots host today as part of the Olympic Athletic Conference tournament, won with 297, Richmond (321) was second and the host Trojans (326) took third.

Gray finished as the tournament runner-up, shooting 3-over-par. He shot 37 on the front nine and 36 on the back.

Adam Horn followed Gray with an 84, Chase Wellman posted an 87 and Adam Mescher shot 89 to finish the team score. Drew Houck totaled a 92.

JV softball loses 3

PENDLETON - The weekend was difficult for the Jay County junior varsity softball team, which lost 13-1 and 26-2 Saturday in a double-header against the Pendleton Heights Arabians. The Patriots also fell 13-6 Friday to the host Bellmont Squaws.

Abby Denney had the biggest offensive game of the weekend against Bellmont, going 4-for-4 with two doubles and two runs. Anneliese Jetmore added two hits and two runs, and Kylie Kelso, Ranae Ray and Taylor Steed each had a hit and a run.

In the opening game against Pendleton Heights, Leanna Vore singled and scored a run. Denney had a hit, a run and an RBI in game two, Vore added a single and a double and Kelso drove in two runs.

Whitni Somers took the loss in all three games as she pitched 12 of the 14 innings for JCHS.

Boys track last at HN

HUNTINGTON - Freshman and sophomore members of the Jay County boys track team placed last in an eight-team field at Saturday's Huntington North Invitational.

The Patriots scored 28 points, finishing 6.5 points behind seventh-place Garrett. The host Vikings won with 176 points, and Marion (146) was second.

Zach Cash led JCHS with a pair of fourth-place finishes. He ran the 110-meter hurdles in 17.6 seconds, and the 300 hurdles in 46.2.

Garrett Krieg was also fourth in the 200 dash in 24.8.

JV baseball falls

The Patriot junior varsity baseball team couldn't stop the Norwell Knights Saturday in a 16-15 loss.

Jay County scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game. But it gave-up the game-winner in the top of the seventh and went scoreless in its final at bat.

Matthew Landfair took the loss, giving up one run on two hits and a walk in the seventh.

Skylar Petty powered the offense with three hits, including two doubles, three RBIs and three runs. Anthony Robbins had three hits and four runs, and David Rosenbeck added three hits and three RBIs.[[In-content Ad]]
