INDIANAPOLIS - Back-to-back wins lifted the Patriots one spot in this week's boys basketball poll.
Jay County moved up to ninth place in this week's Class 3A poll by The Associated Press. It finished with 49 points, 12 behind No. 8 Bishop Dwenger (10-3) and 18 ahead of 10th-ranked Washington (13-3)
The Patriots (13-3) have won six in a row, including 56-44 Friday over Eastbrook and 57-31 Saturday against Fort Recovery.
Defending state champion New Castle (16-2) dropped from the No. 1 spot for the first time all season following its 56-54 loss Friday to Marion. Edgewood (15-0) took over the No. 1 ranking with New Castle second and Plymouth (15-1) third.
Jay County will meet Delta (6-11) Thursday.
Freshmen D strong in OT
After allowing Muncie Southside to rally in the fourth quarter, the Jay County freshman boys basketball team gave up just a single point in overtime for a 43-37 win Monday over the Rebels.
The Patriots (12-5) led 31-25 after three quarters, but gave up 11 points in the fourth as Southside forged the tie. But Jay County held the Rebels without a field goal in overtime as they took the win.
Josh Beaty scored all of his game-high 18 points in regulation before turning over the reigns to to John Pettus and Taylor Farmer in the extra session. They each scored half of their six points in overtime.
Southside went 1-of-4 from the foul line in overtime and just 7-of-17 (41 percent) for the game.
Northside tops Chiefs
The East Jay Middle School sixth grade boys basketball team suffered its first loss of the season Monday, 32-20 to Muncie Northside.
Cade Price finished with seven points as the team slipped to 7-1. Brandon Ferner followed with five points.
Landry Inman had six points in the B team's 23-12 defeat.[[In-content Ad]]
