Patriots are back at .500

JCHS roundup

A late surge lifted the Patriots to their victory Tuesday. A day later they were the victims in an extra-inning defeat.
The Jay County High School baseball team slipped back to .500 Wednesday as it fell 5-4 in eight innings to the visiting Bellmont Braves.
The Patriots led 3-2 after the opening inning, but Bellmont claimed the lead with two runs in the top of the sixth. JCHS (9-9-1) scored once in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game before the Braves claimed the victory in extra innings.
Landry Inman went the distance as he took the loss, but only two of the five runs against him were earned. He allowed five hits and two walks while striking out five.
Jason Houston singled and scored twice for the Patriots, and Kyle Selvey had a hit and a run. Chance Fuller notched the only other hit for Jay County.

Netters fall
The Jay County girls tennis team suffered a 5-0 loss Wednesday to the visiting Muncie Central Bearcats.
The closest match of the evening came at No. 2 singles, where Jessica Ooten fell to 9-4 on the year. She suffered a 7-5, 6-1 loss to Meghan Jackson.
Alyssa Rigby dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision to Ada Kirby at No. 1 singles, and Melinda Penrod lost 6-0, 6-0, to Audrey Kirby at No. 3 singles.
In doubles action Alicia Degler and Kyla McKibben fell 6-1, 6-0 to Taylor Rabel and Natalie Cunningham at No. 1 and Mackenzie McIntire and Brittany Stevens lost 6-2, 6-1 to Kassie Lutton and Tylor Rebel at No. 2.
JCHS dropped the junior varsity match 7-1 with the lone victory coming from Brooke Fraley at No. 3 singles.
