Patriots close season by topping New Castle, Southside (02/08/07)

Jay County is on the right track heading into the sectional meet.

The Patriots boys, once 3-8, won their final three regular-season dual meets, including a pair Wednesday night. They defeated New Castle 64-38 and Muncie Southside 70-32.

Tom McCord and Sam Miller each picked up a pair of individual wins and were in on two relay victories as Jay County finished the regular season at 6-8.

McCord, who was one of eight Patriots to record at least one career-best time on the night, took first place in the 200-yard individual medley in 2-minutes, 6.73 seconds. He was also first in the 100 backstroke at 1:00.52.

Miller finished his win in the 50 freestyle in 24 seconds flat. His second victory came in the 100 butterfly as he reached the wall in 59.37.

McCord and Miller also teamed on the opening and closing relay victories. They teamed with Aaron Hudson and Andres Ayesta to take the 200 medley relay in 1:49.82, and joined Ayesta and Scott Walker for first place in the 400 freestyle relay at 3:40.91.

Walker added an individual win for the Patriots in the 200 freestyle in 2:06.73, and Steven Kelly finished first in diving with a score of 189.35.

Kelly, Ayesta, Hudson and Chance Milligan posted a time of 1:43.75 to win the 200 freestyle relay.[[In-content Ad]]
