Patriots earn win over Rebels

The Jay County High School volleyball team picked up its 12th win of the season Thursday, knocking off the visiting Randolph Southern Rebels 25-18, 25-18, 21-25, 25-22.
Alyssa Rigby and Hannah Ainsworth each finished with 13 digs and 11 service points as the Patriots improved to 12-15 on the season. Maria Murphy racked up 13 kills and three blocks, and Mariah Hornaday followed with 12 kills.
Tanner Martin totaled 23 assists, and Sierra Weatherhead also scored 11 points.
Jay County’s junior varsity squad picked up its third win 25-19, 25-19 over the Rebels as Shannon Springer contributed seven points, three kills and three assists. Shelby Shirk scored eight points, and Audrey Avey added three digs.

EJMS tops Driver
WINCHESTER — East Jay Middle School’s eighth grade football team turned in an impressive defensive effort Thursday in a 6-0 victory over host Driver. The seventh graders also won, 38-20.

The Chief eighth graders forced four turnovers in the game, including an interception from Andrew Ferguson. Kaleb Toland scored the only touchdown on a 40-yard pass form Nick Clemons.
Michael Vanover ran eight times for 103 yards and a touchdown, caught a TD pass from Adrian Stewart and tossed a TD pass for the seventh grade squad (3-1-1). Levi Hummel added eight carries for 80 yards and a TD.

Chiefs take two
East Jay’s volleyball teams won two out of three matches Thursday against Muncie Wilson, with the loss coming in three games.
The seventh grade Chiefs won 25-20, 21-25, 15-13 and the six graders posted a 25-21, 25-19 victory. The EJMS eighth grade team won its opening game before falling 22-25, 25-21, 15-11.
Mallory Marshall keyed the win of the East Jay seventh graders (12-7) with five kills, four points and three digs. Ava Kunkler also had four points and three digs, and Kylie Osborne finished with five digs and two assists.
Lizzy Schoenlein turned in seven digs, five aces and a kill to lead the sixth graders. Deanna Chenoweth had five aces, and Britlyn Dues totaled four digs and a kill.
Breanne McIntire’s seven points, six digs and six kills led the EJMS eighth grade team (9-10). Malarie Houck had 10 assists, and Michelle Wellman scored nine points.[[In-content Ad]]
