The Jay County High School boys tennis team picked up a few more games Thursday. But it still came away on the losing end of a 5-0 decision at home to the Norwell Knights.
Tylor Smith led the Patriots, who picked up just four games in their opening 5-0 loss Tuesday to Marion, at No. 3 singles.
He picked up nearly as many games on his own in a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Thye Petty and No. 3 singles.
Jared Valentine lost 6-1, 6-1 to Kyle Fillman at No. 1 singles. Both doubles matches went in the books with the same score as Chance Fuller and Seth Ainsworth fell to Kyle Reinhard and Ross Matthews at No. 1, and Austin Cowan and Jordan McBride lost to Jasson Werling and Kyle Isch at No. 2.
Brad Leuthold dropped the No. 2 singles match 6-0, 6-0 against Reid Imel.
Junior varsity
Derek Smith and Morton Garringer came closest to victories as the junior varsity Patriots dropped all nine matches to Norwell.
Smith played at No. 3 singles, where he suffered an 8-5 defeat to L.J. Reeve. Morton Garringer lost by the same score to Joel Sauer at No. 6 singles.
Others to win multiple games were Joe Imel, who lost 8-3 at No. 4 singles, Garringer and Landry Inman, who fell 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, and Matthew Shrack and Shawn Homan, who took an 8-2 loss at No. 2 doubles.[[In-content Ad]]
