FARMLAND - For the second straight three-way meet, the Jay County High School boys golf team settled for a split.
The Patriots scored a 168 Tuesday at Hickory Hills Golf Course, finishing behind host Monroe Central (162) and ahead of Winchester (187). They also split with Bluffton and Bellmont Thursday.
Adam Gray shared match medalist honors with Monroe Central's Shane Ruble at 37. He birdied the 355-yard, par-4 sixth hole, had pars on Nos. 3 and 4 and finished with three consecutive pars.
Adam Horn had the only other birdie of the day for JCHS (6-3) on the 312-yard, par-4 fourth hole. He added three pars for a 40.
Chase Wellman had two pars for a 45, and Kyle Wellman knocked in three pars for a 46 to close out the team score. Jonathan Fennig shot 48, and Justen Moser finished at 54.
SA golfers fall
South Adams' golf team finished last out of three teams Tuesday with a score of 199. Garrett took the win over Southern Wells, 176-179.
Landyn Waugh had the only score in the 40s for the Starfires with a 47. Ryan Moser and Zack Sharp each finished at 51, and Mark Farris and Sam Poulson totaled matching 53s.
JC JV baseball wins
SHENANDOAH - A four-run fifth inning lifted the Jay County junior varsity baseball team to a 9-5 victory Tuesday over the Shenandoah Raiders.
Ryan Miskinis powered the Patriots, who are now 7-1. He went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs. Eric Homan added a single, a double and a run, and Nathaniel Brown and John Pettus each singled and scored twice.
Tyler Freyburgher got the win, giving up five runs - two earned - on two hits and four walks in four innings. He struck out eight batters, and Skylar Petty allowed just one hit in three scoreless innings of relief.
