Patriots fourth in shortened invitational (08/09/07)
JCHS girls golf
YORKTOWN - On Wednesday, the heat and humidity were the big winners.
The host Bearcats finished first in the Muncie Central Invitational, which was down to four teams this year from seven in 2006 and got shortened to nine holes because of the extreme weather. Jay County's girls golfers were last among the group at The Players Club with their score of 223, which put them behind Central (191), New Palestine (193) and Olympic Athletic Conference rival Anderson Highland (208).
The team was missing varsity starters Jennifer Hunt, Ivy Simons and Cara Garringer.
Senior Trisha Champ posted the top score for Jay County, placing third in the tournament with a 43. Katie Windlan (38) of Highland was the match medalist.
Champ played the first five holes at 2-over-par thanks to a birdie on the 425-yard, par-5 second hole and a par on the 138-yard, par-3 fifth. She added a second par on the 77-yard, par-3 seventh hole.
Rachel Osterholt, Alex Bunch and Macey Gerber followed Champ with scores of 57, 61 and 62 respectively. Osterholt had the only par amongst the rest of the group as she also played even on the fifth hole.
Abby Denney finished with a 70.[[In-content Ad]]
