Patriots get 1st victory (04/21/06)

BLUFFTON — Jay County’s boys golf team continued its gradual improvement Thursday and got the payoff.

The Patriots came up with their first dual-meet victory of the season, topping the Bluffton Tigers 176-186 at Timber Ridge Golf Club.

Adam Gray turned in the top score for Jay County, sharing match medalist honors with Bluffton’s Trevor Troxel at 42.

Gray carded the Patriots’ lone birdie, playing the par-5 fifth hole at 1-under. He added pars on three of the final four holes.

Josh Hall was next for Jay County with three pars for a 43, and Gray Suman also had three pars in shooting a 44. James Brosher had one par as he closed out the team score with a 47.

Justen Moser shot 49.

Junior varsity

Jay County posted a 195, while the host Tigers did not have a full team.

Chris Shannon’s 46 with a par on the fifth hole led the Patriots while Aaron Daniels came up with four pars in the final six holes for a 47. They were followed by Ben Gasca (48), Jon Fennig (53) and Kyle Wellman (54).[[In-content Ad]]
