Patriots go 1-2 in OAC (01/02/06)

JCHS volleyball

MUNCIE - Jay County's volleyball team defeated Connersville 25-11, 25-21 Saturday, but dropped its other two matches in the Olympic Athletic Conference tournament. The Patriots fell 25-19, 23-25, 25-20 to Anderson Highland and 25-21, 25-12 to host Muncie Southside to move their record to 11-15.

Junior Shelby Rines finished the tournament with a team-high 21 kills, including 10 in the loss to Highland. She also had 16 digs, six points and an ace.

Theresa Reinhart totaled 33 digs and 22 points, with 17 digs and 11 points against Highland. Erica Clark had 35 of her 68 assists versus Highland, and added 16 digs and 14 points.

Sarah Westgerdes had 16 kills and six blocks, and Ashley Horn scored six of her 10 points with aces.

Junior varsity

The Patriots finished 1-2 in the OAC tournament with the lone win coming by a 25-18, 25-11 score over Highland. They lost 25-16, 25-4 to Connersville and 25-11, 25-18 to Southside.

Lindsey Current had an outstanding match against Highland, leading the team with six kills and four aces. She also shared the team highs of five digs with Kristi Morningstar and Amy Powell and seven points with Kelci Reed.

Ashley Langenkamp and Liz Walker each had five assists, and Kelsey Wood added five kills.

East Jay

The lone win for the Chiefs as they hosted the East Jay Invitational came with a comeback effort over Southern Wells for a 17-25, 25-13, 15-5 final. They lost to Bluffton 25-18, 25-22 and Muncie Wilson 25-19, 25-12.

Laura Castillo led the victory over Southern Wells with 11 points and six aces. She also had eight points in the loss to Bluffton.

Sierra Weatherhead had seven points against Wilson, and Abby Denney added six points.[[In-content Ad]]
