Patriots go 1-2 in tourney play

JCHS volleyball

The Jay County volleyball team went 1-2 in competitive matches during the Marion Invitational Saturday.
The Patriots (14-18) fell to Eastbrook and Northfield before beating host Marion in the final match of the day.
Against Eastbrook, the Patriots opened with a 25-19 win in game one but dropped the next two 14-25 and 11-15. Against Northfield they dropped the first 21-25, picked up the second 25-21 but couldn’t close out the match in the third game, falling 12-15.
In the win over Marion the Patriots let the first game slip 20-25 but bounced back and stuck out the second for 25-23 finish. This time that third game swung in their favor for a 15-12 win.
In the tournament, Mariah Hornaday racked up 43 kills, Alyssa Rigby picked up 32 digs, Maria Murphy notched 3.5 blocks and Tanner Martin led with 26 points and 71 assists.
In junior varsity action, the Patriots dropped all three of its matches, falling to 4-15 on the season. Shannon Springer led the patriots with six aces, 11 points and 15 assists.

All-conference
South Adams sophomore Rachel Simon was named to the first team all-conference soccer roster for the Allen County Athletic Conference.

Simon was the only player from South Adams to be named to the first team. Michaela Rupp, Brianna Nevil and Jessie Beavers were named to the second team. South Adams finished 0-3 in conference play this year.

FR falls
The 8th grade Fort Recovery volleyball team dropped its final match of the year to St. Henry.
The Tribe fell 16-25, 26-24, 20-25 to end its season with a 9-9 record. Tori Lennartz had nine kills and six blocks, Cassidy Rammel collected six assists and eight digs and Haley Knapke contributed four aces to go with eight digs in the loss.

Colts cruise
Isaac Moeller and Parker Grimes each scored twice as the Colts cruised over the Cowboys 35-8 in Jay County Pee Wee football this weekend.
In other games, Gabe Faulkner punched in the only TD as the Dolphins beat the Bears 6-0, Ivan Hemmelgarn scored twice to lead the Bengals to a 22-16 win over the Giants, Jacob Patch found the end zone to lead the Vikings 10-0 over the Winchester Hawks and Noah Hummel scored two touchdowns in a 23-6 Chiefs win over the Winchester Falcons.[[In-content Ad]]
