Patriots JV lose second straight

PENDLETON — After winning its first five games of the season, the Jay County High School junior varsity football team lost its second straight game Monday, falling to the Pendleton Heights Arabians 46-6.
Aaron Neal scored the only touchdown for the Patriots.

Chief runners first
DUNKIRK — The East Jay boys and girls cross country teams both finished first Monday at the West Jay Invitational.
Kendra Muhlenkamp was the race winner, crossing the finish line in 11 minutes, 23 seconds, to lead the Chief girls to a team score of 27.
Delta was second with 44 and Wes-Del third with 78. West Jay did not post a team score.
Breea Liette (12:26), Alex Bader (12:28), Kristy Alig (12:31) and Cheyenne Liette (12:33) placed fifth through eighth for the Chiefs to round out their team score.
Lexus Harding was the only runner for the Eagles, placing 15th in 13:33.
East Jay’s Grant Keihn finished first in 10:14 for the Chief boys, which had a team score of 26. Delta placed second with 35 points. Wes-Del and West Jay did not post team scores.
Following Keihn for the Chiefs were Alex LeMaster (10:32 – third), Skyler Myers (10:47 – fourth), Payton Heniser (11:21 – seventh) and Dylan Harris (11:35 – 11th).
Matthew Paquette led West Jay with a 16th place finish in 12:16. Ian McCombs (12:34 – 20th) Dustin Moles (14:21) and Joey Littler (18:40 – 35th) were the other runners for the Eagles.

Jets sweep Chiefs
The Monroe Central Middle School volleyball teams swept East Jay on Monday.
Katie Beougher recorded team highs in kills (three), service points (four) and aces (two) for the eighth grade Chiefs in their 25-18, 25-17 defeat
The sixth grade Chiefs lost 25-14, 25-18, and the score for the seventh graders was not available.
Irene Braun and Lucy Laux each had four digs, while Briana Muhlenkamp added three assists and three points.
Kaylee Inman tallied three points and two digs for the Chiefs.
For the East Jay seventh graders, Maggie Pryor tallied team highs in kills (three) and digs (15), and also added three aces.
Gwen Omstead had four aces, two digs, one kill and one block for the Chiefs while Kailee Denney added four digs, three assists and two kills.

Hanna Dillon also had five aces for East Jay.
Sara Hemmelgarn led the sixth grade Chiefs with six points, including two aces. Logan Poore also added two points, while Britney Mullins and Kassidy Fennig each had one.

Hill leads Eagles
DUNKIRK — Holton Hill rushed for one touchdown and passed for another Monday as the West Jay Middle School eighth grade football team beat the visiting Monroe Central Golden Bears 26-18.
Hill was 4-of-14 passing for 67 yards including his two scores.
Mitchell Ferguson rushed eight times for 45 yards and a TD while adding two receptions for 24 yards.
Cole Stigleman caught the other two Hill passes for 14 yards, and he added 45 yards rushing.
Connor Davis led the Eagles (2-3) with six tackles, while Stigleman and Ferguson each added five. Devante Crouse recorded four stops, and Nathan Hamilton had three tackles and a sack.

WJ remain unbeaten
DUNKIRK — Wyatt Geesaman scored the lone touchdown for the West Jay seventh grade football team Monday as the host Eagles shut out Monroe Central on Monday, 6-0, to remain unbeaten.
Geesaman found the end zone on a pass from Gabe Faulkner as West Jay improved to 5-0.
Faulkner was 3-of-6 passing for 50 yards, and Geesaman rushed for 40 yards on three carries.
Andrew Toney also added 11 yards on three carries.
Kobe Bennett and Geesaman each had four tackles for the Eagles, and Faulkner added three stops.

Delta tops West Jay
DUNKIRK — The Delta Middle School sixth grade volleyball team defeated West Jay on Monday, 25-9, 18-25, 15-1.
West Jay’s Allison Jobe posted team highs in service points (17) and aces (six).
Abby Fisher also had two points and one ace, while Hallie Fields recorded a service point for the host Eagles. Callie Stigleman added one ace for West Jay.[[In-content Ad]]
