INDIANAPOLIS - Jay County High School's girls basketball team remained seventh in the Indiana High School Coaches of Girls Sports Association poll this week.

The Patriots picked up a few more points as they finished with 53, putting them 23 behind sixth-ranked Fishers (13-1) and 22 ahead of No. 8 Carmel (9-2). Four of the six teams ranked ahead of JCHS are undefeated, including No. 1 Ben Davis (14-0).

The last two wins for Jay County came in tournament action at Bedford North Lawrence, where it beat the host Stars 58-54 and Bloomington North 40-27. The team ranks third in Class 4A in defensive average (35.7) and seventh in average margin of victory (24.1).

In other rankings, the Patriots seventh overall in the Sagarin Rating and 10th in the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Poll.

JCHS plays tonight at New Castle (9-2), which is on a nine-game winning streak.

Jay boys tied for 15th

INDIANAPOLIS - A victory after three weeks off earned the Patriots votes again in this week's Class 4A poll.

The Jay County High School boys basketball team (5-0) picked up six poll points again in the poll by The Associated Press. It finished 15th in the voting, tied with Munster (7-0) and Northridge (8-0).

The Patriots went three full weeks without playing as games were canceled because of bad weather. They returned to the court Saturday, knocking off Muncie Central 53-40 in overtime.

JCHS ranks second in Class 4A and fifth in the state overall as it allows just 38.8 points per game.

Starfire JV girls split

BERNE - The South Adams junior varsity girls basketball team split its games Saturday in the Bi-County tournament.

The host Starfires dropped their opener in overtime, 26-23 to the Bluffton Tigers. However, they bounced back to win the consolation contest 31-28 over Adams Central.

Southern Wells won the tournament, defeating Adams Central 32-22 and Bluffton 38-20.

FR freshmen win in OT

Fort Recovery High School's freshman girls basketball team knocked off the Minster Wildcats 23-21 in overtime.

Ericka Lennartz powered the Indians with 12 points. Kara Faller added four points, and Christen Wendel and Taylor Guggenbiller each scored three.

Chiefs top WJMS girls

The East Jay Middle School girls basketball teams each stayed perfect Monday with victories over West Jay.

The Chief seventh graders limited WJMS to two points in each of the first three quarters as Kaitlin Petro led the way with 16 points. Sara Bollenbacher and Abby Dunlavy followed with eight points apiece.

Emily Devoe scored 10 points for East Jay's eighth graders, who outscored the Eagles 18-0 in the second and third periods. Lexie Gierhart added nine points, and Gabi Cross finished with eight.
