Patriots roll over Hagerstown

HAGERSTOWN — The Patriots spread the wealth.
Nine different Jay County High School girls swimmers picked up wins Tuesday in a 139-42 domination of the Hagerstown Tigers. The boys also cruised to a 112-64 victory.
The Patriot girls swept three events, with Alyson Lucas starting the run by taking the 500-yard freestyle in 6:24.58. Abigail Johnson took the 100 backstroke in 1:18.73, and Taylor Campbell was first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:24.92.
Other wins came from Eme Miller (50 freestyle), Katy Smeltzer (100 butterfly), Mary Hudson (100 freestyle), Laura Bowen (200 individual medley) and Marissa Murrell (200 freestyle) and Rachel Vogler (diving).
Alex Sutton fought off Hagerstown’s Eli Reagan by 12 hundredths of a second to win the 100 freestyle for the boys team in 57.22. Josh Lykins (100 butterfly), James Keen (100 breaststroke) and Remi Arnold (diving) also added victories.

WJ boys fall
The West Jay Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team fell short Tuesday in a 38-31 loss to host R.J. Baskett (Gas City).
The sixth graders lost 36-22 at Muncie Wilson.

Joey Springer had 10 points for the Eagle eighth grade team, which trailed 20-7 at the half. Aaron Neal added eight points and six rebounds.
Connor Davis, Jordan Stultz and Cole Stigleman each scored six points for the sixth grade squad (2-1).

Chiefs fall at FR
FORT RECOVERY — The East Jay eighth grade girls basketball team fell just short in a 32-31 overtime loss Monday to the Fort Recovery Indians.
Mallory Marshall scored a career-high 12 points for the Chiefs, who managed just one point in the extra session. Gabby Hart finished with seven points, and Abby Wendel scored six.

Patriot team 13th
FRANKLIN — The Patriot Elementary Wrestling Team finished 13th at Sunday’s Indiana State Wrestling Association Elementary Dual Team State Finals.
The Jay County squad defeated Columbia City 73-30, but suffered losses to Perry Meridian 47-45, Avon 54-43 and Chesterton 54-50.
Tony Wood and Jacob Ferguson turned in perfect records to lead the team, each finishing 4-0. Dan Ostrowski, Clint Coy and Alex Coleman all added 3-1 marks, and Hunter Miller, Kaimen Sanders and Nathaniel Lykins were each 2-2.[[In-content Ad]]
