Local Roundup

MUNCIE — At times, the Jay County boys soccer team has been a finely-tuned scoring machine.

The Patriots reached double-digits for the fourth time this season Monday, crushing the Muncie Southside Rebels 10-0. The victory pushed them back above .500 at 7-6, and finished their Olympic Athletic Conference season at 2-1.

They also defeated Monroe Central 10-1, Delta 10-0 and Connersville 11-4 this year.

Jay County was led by senior Trent Bailey, who was among the scoring leaders in the state even before posting four goals against Muncie Southside.

Bailey wasted no time in getting his first score against the Rebels, putting the ball into the net just 27 seconds after the opening kickoff. He scored on an assist from Scott “Scooter” Bruggeman.

He added two more goals as Jay County built a 5-0 halftime lead, and put the ball in the net once after the break.

Bailey now has 21 goals on the season.

Chad Keen also had a hat trick against Muncie Southside. He scored his first goal with 10 minutes remaining in the first half, and then scored the Patriots’ first two of the second half.

He has now scored 15 times on the year.

Ivo Rangelov scored one goal and added two assists, and Sergio Woo and Justin Fox each scored once.
