Patriots stumble against Southside

JCHS baseball

MUNCIE - The Jay County High School baseball team pulled even in the top of the seventh inning, but couldn't keep the Rebels off the scoreboard in the bottom of the frame.

Muncie Southside, which built a 4-1 lead in the first two innings, scored the game-winning run in its final at bat to hand the Patriots a 5-4 defeat.

JCHS rallied back from its early deficit with two runs in the top of the fifth inning and one in the top of the seventh before Southside recovered to pick up the win. Ty Huntsman took the loss, giving up one unearned run in 4 1/3 innings while striking out five batters.

Jon Pettus went 2-for-4 and scored a couple of runs to lead the Patriots. Willie Mayfield and Eric Homan each added one hit and one run.[[In-content Ad]]
