Patriots tie for fifth time

HARTFORD CITY — A tie has been the most consistent outcome for the Jay County girls soccer team this season as the Patriots played to its fifth tie Tuesday.
Trailing the Blackford Bruins 1-0 at halftime, Jay County’s Gabbie Mann scored the game-tying goal with 23 minutes left to play.
Sidney Taylor scored the lone goal for the Bruins 19 minutes into the contest on a pass from Maggie Weeks-Foy.
Mann led the Patriots (4-5-5) with three shots, while Catherine Dunn and Stormi Canterbury each added two.
Ericka Reynolds, Mariah Bailey and Sophie Bader each had a shot on goal.
Lilly Rogers had five saves as goalkeeper for the Patriots.
Jay County was winless through its first eight games of the season, but have been a .500 team since then, going 3-1-2 in the last six games
Jay County plays its final regular season game at 5 p.m. Thursday at Muncie Central.

JC suffers first loss
MARION — The Jay County junior varsity football team suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday, falling to the Eastbrook Panthers 48-6.
Joey Link threw a touchdown pass to Aaron Neal for the Patriots’ only score.
Jay County fell to 5-1, and will play its next game at 6 p.m. Monday at Pendleton Heights.

West Jay sweeps S. Wells
DUNKIRK — The West Jay Middle School seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams swept the visiting Southern Wells Raiders on Tuesday.
The eighth graders won 25-16, 25-10, and the seventh graders held the Raiders to only 11 points in a 25-8, 25-3 victory.
Hanna Ault led the eighth grade Eagles with 16 service points, including six aces. She also added two kills.
Olivia Cochran tallied 11 points with three aces, and Kady Finnerty and Kimber Harris each added two.
Chloe Trissel had a team-high three kills.
Rhegan Shimp and Kendal Garringer led the West Jay seventh graders with 11 points each and three aces each. Randi Ferguson tallied eight points with two aces, and Shelby Caldwell added seven points.

EJMS spikers top Indians
The East Jay seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams swept West Side (Union City) on Tuesday
The eighth grade Chiefs won 25-20, 16-25, 15-10, and the seventh graders defeated West Side in two games.
Alayna Aparicio led the eighth grade Chiefs with 13 points and six aces, and Briana Muhlenkamp added 10 points and three aces.

Kaylee Inman had six points and three aces, and Elizabeth recorded four kills.
Muhlenkamp had a team-high five assists.
For the East Jay seventh graders, Gwen Omstead tallied four kills while Olivia Kunkler had two. Maggie Pryor, Omstead and Kunkler each recorded eight aces for East Jay.

East Jay sixth graders fall
YORKTOWN — The East Jay sixth grade volleyball team fell to the Yorktown Tigers on Tuesday, 25-6, 25-3, and the ‘B’ team lost 25-3, 25-0.
Kassidy Fennig had the only two points for the Chiefs’ ‘A’ team, one of which was an ace.
