MUNCIE — With a victory Tuesday, the Patriots can guarantee themselves a winning season for the first time in five years.
Jay County High School’s girls soccer team scored both of its goals Saturday in the first half in a 2-0 victory over the Muncie Southside Rebels.
The win pushed the Patriots to 8-6 on the year with just two games — Tuesday at Blackford and Thursday at Muncie Central — left in the regular season.
Alex Loy got the Patriots on the board about 14 minutes into the game when she scored on a shot from the left side. Maddie Bailey extended the lead 12 minutes later when she sent a shot from the left side high to the right corner.
LeAnn Horn and Bailey each took two shots on goal in the victory. Brooke Reynard finished with one save.

Fort runners fifth
VERSAILLES, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s girls cross country team finished fifth out of 11 teams with 116 points at Saturday’s Tour De Sewer. The boys were eighth out of 11 teams with 255.
The host Versailles Tigers won the girls competition by 45 over Botkins with 34 points. Division III No. 7 St. Henry (33) was first in the boys event ahead of Versailles (40).
Elle Sutter turned in the top finish for the Indians, taking 13th in the girls race in 21 minutes, 23 seconds. Abby May was 20th in 21:59 ahead of Jessica Vogel (22nd – 22:18, Nicole Heitkamp (27th – 22:39) and Mariah Koester (44th – 23:43).
Derek S. Sutter, a sophomore, paced the boys team in 24th at 18:42. Nathan Fullenkamp was 44th at 19:23 followed by Marshall Hull (75th – 20:36), Mitchell Homan (84th – 21:14) and Isaac Keller (92nd – 21:35).

Jay spikers 1-2
The Jay County freshman volleyball team picked up a 25-7, 25-16 victory over Marion Saturday as it hosted its C-team tournament. The Patriots suffered losses of 18-25, 25-23, 15-13 to South Adams and 25-17, 25-17 to Pioneer.
Jessica Kerrigan led the JCHS squad with 24 service points, including 10 aces, and 15 kills on the day. Emily Westgerdes added 10 kills, six aces and 2.5 blocks.
Courtney Finnerty finished with 15 assists and 14 service points, Faith Parr had 34 digs and Lucy Hemmelgarn totaled 10 kills.

FR volleyball wins
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery Middle School volleyball teams evened their records at 5-5 with wins Saturday over the Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks. The eighth grade Indians won 25-14, 25-14 and the seventh graders picked up a 25-3, 16-25, 25-10 victory.
Morgan Lennartz powered the FRMS eighth graders to the win with six kills and four service points. Jackie Heiser scored five service points, and Kirsten Jutte had five assists.
Devin Post set the pace for the Indian seventh graders with 17 service points, four kills and two assists. Jill Roessner added nine service points and three kills.

Tribe girls third
VERSAILLES, Ohio — Angela Heitkamp and Caitlyn Huelskamp went back-to-back Saturday to lead the Fort Recovery Middle School girls cross country team to a third place finish in a seven-team field at the Tour De Sewer. The boys team was eighth out of 10 teams.
Heitkamp took fourth place in the race with a time of 13 minutes, 24.8 seconds, and Huelskamp was just four tenths of a second behind her teammate in fifth. Grace Gehle placed 22nd in 14:25 ahead of Cori Stone (23rd – 14:31) and Chassity Hemmelgarn (39th – 15:24).
Anthony Jutte set the pace for the Indian boys with a time of 12:57 for 21st place. Isaac Siegrist was 48th in 13:54 followed by Mitch Kaiser (50th – 13:58), Nick Litmer (70th – 15:33) and Ty Francis (86th – 16:50).[[In-content Ad]]
