Patriots top Wapahani to end skid (09/14/07)

Local roundup

SELMA - The Patriots came alive again.

Jay County High School's boys soccer game ended its skid Thursday with a 4-1 victory over the host Wapahani Raiders.

Luke Darby and Justen Moser combined to put the game away for the Patriots, who were 0-2-1 in the previous three games before topping Wapahani (3-4). Moser scored nine minutes into the second half on an assist from Darby, and they switched roles five minutes later when Darby scored off a pass from Moser.

Those two tallies capped a run of three goals in just over seven minutes for Jay County (5-3-2), which was locked in a 1-1 tie with the Raiders at halftime. Derek Bartlett had the first Patriot goal of the second half at the 33:05 mark on an assist from Adam Daniels.

Brad Horn recorded the other JCHS goal from a Chase Ainsworth pass midway through the first half.

The Patriots racked up 18 shots on goal, including four from Horn. Moser and Bartlett each converted on their only attempts of the night.

The Raiders took just three shots, and Kevin Dirksen had a pair of saves.
