Patriots win in extras

ST. MARYS, Ohio - The Jay County High School baseball team evened its record with a 7-5, nine-inning victory Thursday over the host Memorial Roughriders.
The Patriots (6-6) trailed by two with an inning to play, but scored twice in the top of the seventh inning and twice in the top of the ninth to pick up the win.
Andre Duke powered the JCHS offense, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Willie Mayfield had three hits, Chance Fuller drove in two runs and Eric Homan scored twice.
Bruins top golfers
HARTFORD CITY - The Patriots suffered a 185-198 loss Thursday to the host Blackford Bruins.
Drew Houck posted a 47 to lead Jay County has he tallied four of the team's seven pars. Evan Ryder followed with a 48.
Blackford's Tanney Dickey earned medalist honors with a 53.
Austin Mann had one par in his round of 51 for the Patriots, and Jacob Heitkamp completed the team score with a 52. Mitchel Rigby shot 56, and Seth Ainsworth had a 58.
Ritchie Carducci carded the best junior varsity score for JCHS with a 50 in a 202-230 loss to the Bruins.
Softball no-hit
The Class 3A No. 8 Mississinewa Indians kept their perfect record in tact Thursday as they held Jay County hitless, handing the Patriots a 12-0, six-inning defeat.
JCHS (3-9) trailed just 2-0 after four innings before giving up three runs in the fifth and seven in the sixth to end the game an inning early. The Indians improved to 8-0.
Rachelle Jackson took the loss, giving up 12 runs - seven earned - on eight hits and four walks. She struck out five batters.
