PORTLAND — The distance crew led the Jay County girls track team to another victory, while a couple of juniors each posted two wins for the boys team.

The Patriot girls won every event 400 meters or longer en route to a 77-46 victory over the Muncie Burris Owls Thursday. The boys team won every field event and two relays to top Muncie Burris 67-56.

Amanda Johnson paced the girls team’s lone sweep, led a one-two finish and contributed to a pair of relay wins.

The freshman led a domination of the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5-minutes, 53 seconds with Jessica Mosier eight seconds back and Paige Klinger third. She was also first in the 400 dash in front of fellow freshman Tequila Guntle for the third straight meet in 1:03.65.

Johnson teamed with Alyssa Johnson, Jill Roughia and Mosier to take first place in the 4x800 relay with a time of 10:55.89. She joined Guntle, Roughia and Jessica Heitkamp in winning the 4x400 relay in 4:25.86.

Roughia was victorious in the 800 run in 2:27.66, with teammate Rose Weaver in second. Alyssa Johnson destroyed the field in the 3,200 run, winning by more than two minutes in 12:06.44.

Erika Hunt picked up another victory in the high jump, clearing the bar at four feet, eight inches. Mosier was second in the event.

Jay County swept the relays, with Heitkamp, Brittany O’Dell, Nicole Pfeifer and Sarah Mescher taking the 4x100 relay in 54.67.

Joseph Vormohr continued to lead effort to big points in the field events. He won the shot put by seven feet at 46 feet, 10 inches, and earned the discus victory by nearly 20 feet with a toss of 130 feet, 11 1/2 inches.

Steven Castillo was second in both events.

Vormohr was also Jay County’s lone champion at Wednesday’s Muncie Relays, placing first in the discus at 139 feet, six inches at Muncie Central. The team finished fifth at the eight-team event.

Justin Gilbert earned one of his two wins in the field events, finishing first in the long jump at 18 feet, 3 1/4 inches. He took first in the 100 dash as well in 11.33 seconds.

Mark Kelly finished off the Patriot field event sweep, earning victory in the high jump at five feet, 10 inches.

Kurtis Hess had the only other Patriot win, taking the 110 hurdles in 17.24 with teammate Mason Shreve second. Jay County was also first in both the 4x100 and 4x800 relays.[[In-content Ad]]
