JCHS baseball

HARTFORD CITY — After Wednesday night’s 8-3 loss to the Blackford Bruins, the Jay County baseball team is now 2-2 against sectional teams this season. To earn a sectional title, they’ll need three wins.

The sectional draw was announced today, and the Patriots (8-10) will play Mississinewa in the second first-round game at Tipton on Memorial Day. The teams split a regular-season double-header.

Jay County never led Wednesday as the Bruins racked up six runs in the third inning. They took advantage of six errors by the Patriots.

Trent Bailey suffered the defeat, but all seven of the runs against him were unearned. Josh Shatto drove in two of Jay County’s three runs with a two-run homer in the sixth inning.

The Patriots’ sectional opener will be Monday, May 30 at Tipton at 3:30 p.m. It will follow the other first-round game between Blackford and the host Blue Devils at 1 p.m.

The winners of the first two games will meet Tuesday, May 31 at 5 p.m. The second semifinal game will follow with Delta meeting Elwood at 7:30 p.m.

The championship game will be Friday, June 3 at 7 p.m.

Jay County’s junior varsity team clobbered Blackford in the first half of Wednesday’s JV/varsity double-header, 14-1.

Justin Mann went 3-for-5 with a double and a home run, and Ryan Rogers also homered. Mann picked up the win, allowing one run on one hit in three innings.[[In-content Ad]]
