JCHS/SAHS cross country

DECATUR — The Jay County girls cross country team’s aspirations of a state berth came to an end Saturday. Alyssa Johnson will still have a chance to make the state meet, as will a pair of South Adams runners.

The Patriots girls finished in sixth place at the Bellmont regional Saturday with 170 points. Only the top five teams advanced to the semi-state, which will be held Saturday at New Haven.

Still, junior Alyssa Johnson advanced as she finished 13th overall. The top 15 individuals earned semi-state berths.

Also moving on to the semi-state was Haleigh Lehman of South Adams, who placed 14th behind Johnson. Her brother, Heath, was 15th in the boys race.
