PORTLAND — Despite fewer victories, the Jay County Summer Swim Team stayed perfect with a victory over Muncie’s Catalina Swim Club Monday.
Catalina won 43 out of the 80 races overall at the Portland Pool, but Jay County took big chunks of depth points — especially in the 8-and-younger girls, 11-12-year-old and 13-14-year-old girls and boys divisions — for a 630-559 victory.
Jay County (4-0) grabbed a bunch of wins in the 8-and-younger division, with Annie Vormohr and Levi Hummel each winning two events while Sophie Bader and Sok Vormohr added two victories apiece.
Annie Vormohr was first in the girls butterfly, individual medley and short freestyle, while Bader added wins in the long freestyle and backstroke. Hummel took the boys long freestyle, individual medley and breaststroke, and Sok Vormohr touched the wall first in the backstroke and short freestyle.
The Millers were the other big winners on the night, as Alysha and Sam each won three events. Alysha’s victories came in the 11-12-year-old girls long freestyle, individual medley and short freestyle, and Sam’s were in the 13-14-year-old boys butterfly, individual medley and breaststroke.
Adding individual wins in the 11-12-year-old division were Michael Long in the girls backstroke, Emilee Miller in the breaststroke, Lucas Holcomb in the boys long freestyle, Wiley Young in the butterfly and Richard Osterholt in the short freestyle. Lauren Murrell took the 13-14-year-old girls breaststroke win, Ivy Simons won the backstroke, and Chance Milligan was first in the boys short freestyle.
Rachel Vogler grabbed her victory in the 9-10-year-old girls short freestyle, and Zane Shreve won the boys backstroke. Amelia Freeman won the 8-and-younger girls breaststroke.[[In-content Ad]]
