Petro leads Jay County in loss


ALBANY — The Jay County High School girls golf team had five golfers finish within two shots of each other and Katlin Petro fired a season-low 49, but the Delta Eagles defeated the Patriots Thursday 174-200 at Albany Golf Club.
Maddison Baughn and Sydney Robbins posted identical scores of 50, and Sydney Mathias and Carlie Wickey both posted a 51 for the Patriots.
The par-4 fifth hole and par-3 eighth were the lowest scoring holes for Jay County as it posted 8-over par for both. Robbins made par on the fifth and Baughn made par on the eighth, her second par of the round.

SA moves to 16-2
HARTFORD CITY — Sydney Willis made birdie and shot par on two holes to lead the South Adams girls golf team to a first-place finish Thursday against the Blackford Bruins and Winchester Golden Falcons.
Behind the play of Willis, the Starfires (16-2) had a team score of 187, 21 shots ahead of the second-place Bruins.
Winchester finished third with a 240 team score.
Alaina Johnston posted a 45, while Kelli Lehman shot a 48 and Alleigh Wingler and Jaci Gorrell had identical scores of 53.
Zoie Mann led the Bruins with a 46, and Beth Redmond (55) posted the top score for the Golden Falcons.

Fort golfers fall
CELINA, Ohio — The Marion Local Flyers girls golf team defeated Fort Recovery on Thursday 216-236 at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
Cori Stone fired a season-best 56 for the Indians, finishing nine strokes behind match medalist  Sara Thwaits of Marion Local.
Trisha Thein posted a 57 for the Tribe, and Tori Vaughn (58) and Emily Bruns (65) rounded out Fort Recovery’s top four scores.
The Indians fell to 4-2 on the season and 3-1 in
Midwest Athletic Conference play.
Fort Recovery’s first of its final two matches is at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Tri-Village.

FRMS downs East Jay
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery Middle School seventh grade volleyball team defeated the East Jay Middle School Chiefs on Thursday, 25-14, 19-25, 25-17.
Cassidy Martin and Hannah Knapke led the Indians with three kills each, while Madison Rammel and Brooke Gaerke  added two apiece.
Faith Kahlig tallied three assists, and Rammel followed with seven.
Defensively, Knapke recorded five digs and Martin added four to go along with her nine aces.
Sarah Walter led the Chiefs offense with four kills, while Gwen Omstead added two.
Kailee Denney, Maggie Pryor and Hanna Dillon each had three aces, and Pryor added 11 digs on defense for the Chiefs. Olivia Kunkler had two digs, one kill and one ace.
In eighth grade action, the Indians defeated the Chiefs 25-6, 25-6.
Carley Stone led the Tribe with six kills, while Kelsey Jutte added four, and Grace Thein and Kiah Wendel each had three.
Madison Glover tallied three aces for Fort Recovery, Stone had two while Sydney Dues, Thein and Jutte each added one.
