Pins key for Patriots

Six consecutive pins put the Jay County High School wrestling team in control Thursday as it defeated the visiting Winchester Golden Falcons 51-30.
Dustin Tighe (125) started the run for the Patriots, who improved to 8-6, when he defeated Trevor Phenis in 4 minutes, 34 seconds.
Tighe’s victory tied the match at 12-12, and Raistlin Rice (130) put JCHS in the lead for good with his pin in 1:29.
Preston Keen (135) followed with a pin in 1:28, and Kyle Davidson (140) added the quickest pin of the evening in just 1:09. Drake Meska (145) defeated Travis Delk in 4:55, and Nick Leonhard (152) completed the run by finishing off Zach Boyd in 3:46 to extend the Patriots’ lead to 42-12.
Eric Beougher (171) added the most dramatic victory of the evening, rallying from a three-point deficit to score the winning takedown with just four seconds remaining in a 10-9 triumph. Kyle Garringer (189) added a pin in 1:13, and Robert Cooper (103) won by forfeit.
In junior varsity action, Jay County dominated for a 27-6 win.
Gary Corle (171) led the Patriots, needing just 18 seconds to score his pin. Other pins came from Austin Bentz (140), Cesar Castor (145), Nick Spahr (HWT) and Chris Johnson (HWT).

SA stays perfect
BERNE — South Adams improved to 13-0 Thursday with a 38-18 victory over the Adams Central Flying Jets.
Cody Conner (189) turned in the only pin of the evening for the Starfires in 2 minutes, 50 seconds. However, Adams Central also had just one pin, and SAHS dominated the upper weight classes for the victory.
In addition to Conner’s victory, Isaac Werst (171) scored a 6-4 decision and Maverick Morningstar (HWT) turned in a 6-3 decision. The Starfires also got wins by decision from L.J. Moser (112), Gabe Sprunger (135) and Josh Ehr (152).
Todd Batt (125) delivered a 21-5 technical fall, and Drew Taylor (215) and Keegan Puterbaugh (103) each won by forfeit.[[In-content Ad]]
