Poole, Horn lead blowout of Delta (08/29/2008)

It took some time for the Patriots to get on the board, but following the first goal the flood gates opened.

After more than 10 minutes of scoreless play, Brad Horn got the opening goal of the game Thursday night against the visiting Delta Eagles.

The Jay County High School boys soccer team tacked on five more goals before halftime on the way to a 9-1 slaughter.

Isaac Poole scored just three minutes after Horn and added two more goals in the final three minutes of the opening half to complete his hat trick. He also had an assist in the first half.

Horn scored again in the opening half, and tallied the first goal of the second to match Poole. Patrick Johnson scored the other first-half goal, and Joe Rasmussen and Trey Dunn added goals in the second half.

Jordan Moser finished with two assists, and Rasmussen had one.

Adam Daniels made a save in the first half, and Austin Duncan came up with one save against Delta in the second half.

Knights top netters

Jay County's boys tennis team picked up a couple of singles wins, but couldn't find a third point in a 3-2 loss Thursday to the visiting Northeastern Knights.

Kyle Simmons dominated at No. 2 singles, defeating Derek Blunk 6-0, 6-1. The Patriot senior dropped his first two matches of the season, but is 4-1 since.

Chase Wellman picked up the other victory for Jay County, 6-1, 7-5 over Dale Milnes at No. 3 singles. In other other singles match, Phil Powell fell 6-2, 6-0 to Carl Nettekoven.

Jared Valentine and Adam Horn improved in their second set at No. 1 doubles, but still lost 6-4, 6-2 to Jordan Ross and Dalton Milnes. At No. 2 doubles, Sam Miller and Tylor Smith fell 6-0, 6-2 to Jacob Terhaar and Mitch Baumer.

Austin Cowan turned in an 8-3 victory at No. 3 singles to lead the junior varsity team to a 3-2 win.[[In-content Ad]]
