Pottkotter earns award

Leading the Fort Recovery High School volleyball team's hot start to the season earned Nicole Pottkotter a statewide honor.

The Tribe senior was named the MaxPreps/American Volleyball Coaches Association Ohio Player of the Week for Aug. 30 through Sept. 6.

Pottkotter racked up 67 assists and 56 kills in splitting her time between playing setter and middle blocker. She also had 25 digs and 12 aces as the Indians won four of their first five matches.

Fort Recovery won the St. Mary's Invitational and its lone loss came in five games against Division IV No. 2 St. Henry.

Eagles win two

DUNKIRK - The West Jay Middle School seventh grade football team was just a few seconds from defeat. Instead James Williams saved the game, and the Eagles walked away with a pair of victories.

Williams' scored the game-tying and winning touchdowns in the seventh graders' 12-6 overtime win Wednesday over visiting Hartford City. The eighth grade team won 12-0.

With just one second remaining in the seventh grade game, Williams scampered in with the tying TD. He scored on a 10-yard run in overtime to give WJMS the victory.

Keenan James scored both touchdowns for the West Jay eighth graders. He had a 25-yard TD run in the second quarter and added a 3-yarder in the fourth.

Both Eagle squads are 2-2 on the year.[[In-content Ad]]
