PARKER CITY - Thanks to Phil Powell, the Patriots are now No. 3.

The Jay County High School junior hit two home runs Tuesday night, leading the Class 4A No. 4 Patriots to a 16-7 victory over host Monroe Central. That brought the team's home run total for the season to 60, moving it to third in Indiana history.

The Patriots (22-2) surpassed Peru and Riverton Parke, which were tied for third with 59 home runs. With two regular-season games - at home Thursday against Bellmont and Friday against New Castle - they stand behind only Brownsburg (66) and Marion (68).

Powell hit his eighth and ninth homers of the year as he finished 3-for-4 and drove in half of the Jay County runs. Thomas McCowan was 2-for-2 with a double and five runs, and Nick Pryor singled, drove in two runs and scored once.

Trey Dunn went the distance for the win, allowing seven runs - five earned - on six hits. He walked four batters and struck out three.

FORT WAYNE - South Adams had a field day against the Harding Hawks, scoring four or more runs four different times in a 22-0, five-inning victory.

Heath Moser set the pace for the Starfires with a home run and four RBIs. He also doubled and scored twice.

John Striker came off the bench for two doubles, two runs and two RBIs, Kyle DeArmond had two hits and four runs and Caleb Armenta totaled two hits, two runs and two stolen bases.

Travis Hunt tossed the shutout, allowing five hits and a walk while striking out three batters.

Junior League

Patriot Paints and Williams Auto Parts each reached the 20-run plateau in Portland Junior League Rookie League victories Tuesday night.

Paints topped Metal Hide 21-20, and Williams beat Mars Pet Care 20-12. In Sandy Koufax action Persimmon Ridge defeated Winchester 10-5 and Graphic Printing knocked off Portland Elks 9-3.

Blade McEwen hit a home run and two triples while scoring three times for Paints, and Mike Schlecty had three doubles and three runs. Logan VanSkyock had a double and two runs for Metal Hide.

Kelsey Vore went 2-for-3 with a home run, a triple and three runs, to lead Williams, and Caden Stant notched a double, a single and three runs. Austin Funk homered for Mars as he finished with two hits and two runs.

Kyle Cline went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and three runs for Persimmon Ridge, and James Strohl also hit a home run. Isaiah Davis scored twice for Winchester.

Nick Patterson hit a solo home run for graphic, and Kaleb Bell had two hits and two runs. Jesus Perez led Elks with two hits and two runs.
