Both East Jay Middle School football teams improved to 2-0 Tuesday with wins over the Union City Westside Warriors.

The eighth graders rolled to a 46-0 victory, and the seventh grade Chiefs won 22-6.

Cade Price racked up 145 yards rushing on just three carries, all of which went for touchdowns, and 45 yards, one TD and a pair of two-point conversions receiving for the eighth grade Chiefs. Cody Bellis ran for a 52-yard TD, Kaleb Clark had an 11-yard scoring run, and Brock McFarland had four completions for 72 yards, a TD and a couple of two-point conversions.

Ryan Claytor paced the offense for the seventh grade team with eight carries for 82 yards and two TDs. Jason Houston caught an 8-yard TD pass from Preston Keen.

Driver tops WJ runners

DUNKIRK - The West Jay Middle School boys cross country team lost 19-44 to the Winchester Driver Hawks Tuesday and the girls team fell 24-34.

Megan Price highlighted the evening for the Eagles, winning the girls race in 14-minutes, 5 seconds. Miranda Gerber was fourth for West Jay in 14:47 followed by Jenna Starr (seventh - 16:52), Makayla Grayson (10th - 18:07) and Lynsay Buckland (12th - 18:21).

Kyle Selvey had the top finish for the Eagle boys in second at 13:15, and Keegan Gerber was 10th at 16:16. Kyle Murdock placed 11th in 16:29, Jordan Wood was 12th at 16:30 and Lee Mock finished 15th in 18:19.

Chief spikers win

East Jay Middle School's volleyball teams each stayed perfect at 4-0 Tuesday. The eighth graders defeated visiting Montpelier 25-8, 25-14, and the seventh grade team won 25-1, 25-10.

Abbey Vance had 13 points for the Chiefs in the eighth grade match, Hannah Ainsworth put up 10 assists and Mikayla Wellman scored nine points. Katie Reier had four kills, and Paige Lennartz added four digs.

Ali Inman led the EJMS seventh grades with nine aces and four assists. Rachael Ferguson had five aces, and Kaitlin Petro added two kills.

EJ edges Eagles

The two Jay County sixth grade volleyball teams were nearly even Tuesday as East Jay edged West Jay 25-19, 16-25, 15-14.

Michelle Wellman had 21 points, including seven aces, and two kills to lead EJMS. Breanne McIntire finished with nine points, three kills and four digs, Jessica Kerrigan totaled seven assists and Catherine Dunn had five digs.

Tyra Westlake had 16 points for West Jay. Courtney Finnerty added 13 points, and Breea Holdcroft finished with 11.[[In-content Ad]]
