Quick scores carry Jay soccer (09/05/03)

Jay County Roundup

The Jay County boys soccer team was ready for action Thursday, scoring in the first five minutes of each half on the way to a 3-0 victory over the Norwell Knights.

Kyle Carpenter had another outstanding game for the Patriots, scoring his sixth and seventh goals of the season. Carpenter’s first score came at the 30:08 mark with Jay County (4-1) already leading because of a goal by Dave Johnston just 2:45 into the contest.

Carpenter got control of the ball in the left corner of the box, knocked his shot off the goal post and the ball went spinning in for a score.

The senior got the Patriots on the board in the second half just a shade faster than Johnston had in the first. Carpenter scored just 2:37 after the intermission, heading in an indirect kick assist from Adam Brandt.

The next game for Jay County is Saturday at Union City at 10 a.m.
