Megan Adams won the final home match of her career. But, it was the only victory the Patriots could manage.
Jay County High School's girls tennis team slipped to 5-11 Tuesday with a 4-1 loss to the visiting Shenandoah Raiders.
Since evening their record at 4-4 on April 17, the Patriots have lost seven of their last eight matches.
Adams had no problem in her senior night match against Ellen Thalls. She scored a shutout in the first set and rolled on to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles.
The Patriots won just one other set, the opener at No. 1 doubles. Tiffani Bickel and Cindy Muhlenkamp had the lead over Alyssa Bennett and Lindsey Rice, but dropped the next two sets in a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 defeat.
At No. 2 doubles Briann Saxman and Megan Huntsman forced a second-set tiebreaker, but lost 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) to Brittany Webber and Emily Vedas. Hannah McAbee fell 6-3, 6-4 to Kelly Ray and No. 3 singles, and Betsy Knittle suffered a 6-0, 6-2 defeat to Mariah Smith at No. 2 singles.
Junior varsity
Mizuki Saito scored a shutout victory, but Jay County fell just short in a 6-5 loss to the Raiders.
Saito blanked Sarah Grizzell of Shenandoah 8-0 at No. 3 singles.
Three of the Patriots' other wins came in singles matches as Mariah Clark (No. 1), Brittany White (No. 4) and Megan McGraw (No. 7) were all victorious. The team of Kellie Howell and Jenna Wilson triumphed at No. 2 doubles.
