Rammel pitches Tribe past Tigers (05/05/08)

Local roundup

The Tribe offense gave Bobby Rammel all the run support he would need in the first inning Saturday.

Fort Recovery High School's baseball team scored three times in the top of the opening inning, and Rammel struck out 12 Versailles Tigers in a 6-1 Indian win.

In the sectional seeding held Sunday, the Indians lined up against Waynesfield-Goshen (4-15).

Rammel allowed a run in the bottom of the first inning, but shut down Versailles (13-7) the rest of the way as Fort Recovery halted a three-game skid. He scattered five hits and two walks.

Frank Thien powered the Indians' offense, going 2-for-3 with a double, a run and two RBIs. Curt Heitkamp singled and scored twice as they scored their six runs on just three hits.

Clint Tobe and Cody Fiely each drove in a run, and Greg Kahlig, Travis Hart and Rammel scored one run apiece.

FRHS (6-7, 2-4 Midwest Athletic Conference) and Waynesfield-Goshen will meet in semifinal action Saturday at Minster at 3:30 p.m. with the winner advancing to take on New Bremen for a sectional title Wednesday, May 14, at 7:30 p.m. The other half of the bracket has Spencerville meeting New Knoxville in the semifinals Saturday at 1 p.m., and the winner advancing to play top-seeded Minster (12-10) Wednesday, May 14, at 5 p.m.
