Recovery falls in 10 innings (04/02/05)

Local Roundups

FORT RECOVERY, Ohio — It was a cool night for baseball Friday. But, the Tribe might just be steaming after letting their game slip away.

The Fort Recovery baseball team gave up 10 runs from the sixth inning on in a 13-10, four-and-a-half-hour, 10-inning loss to the Crestview Knights.

The Indians led 6-3 after five innings, only to have Crestview put up a five spot in the top of the sixth. They scored two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame to pull even, but never got the lead again.

After three scoreless innings the Knights put up another five runs in the top of the 10th. Fort Recovery got two of their own, but could not force a fourth extra inning as it fell by three.

Dusty Guggenbiller, who was saddled with the loss, went 2-for-4 with a home run and three runs scored, and Chris Galdeen added a single, a double and two runs. Todd Post notched three hits, and Sean Kahlig and Tony Diller each added two as the Tribe (1-2) finished with 14.

Fortkamp leads FR

RUSSIA, Ohio — Val Fortkamp racked up six RBIs and was one of five Fort Recovery junior varsity softball players to have two or more hits as the Indians clobbered Russia 18-9 Friday.

Fortkamp, a freshman, finished 3-for-5 with a home run to drive in her six runs. She also scored twice.

Although the final score looks like a blowout, the Indians (2-0) trailed most of the way after giving up four runs in each of the first two innings. They trailed 8-6 at that point, and 9-7 heading into the final inning. But, the scored 11 times in the seventh to take the lead and blow the game wide open.
