Red Devils overpower Jay Co. spikers (10/07/05)

RICHMOND — Jay County couldn’t pull out of its slump Thursday, losing its sixth straight match 25-10, 25-16, 25-21 to the Richmond Red Devils.
Erica Clark paced the Patriots, who slipped to 5-22 on the season and have not won since the Franklin Community Tournament Sept. 17. She totaled 12 assists, five digs, two blocks and one kill.
Theresa Reinhart and Shelby Rines finished with five digs and three kills apiece. Ashley Horn had nine digs, and Markie Runyon notched three kills.
Jay County’s junior varsity team also lost to Richmond, 25-13, 25-9.
The Patriots managed just four kills in all, two of which came from Julie Alig. Stephanie Wellman and Sharon Dirksen each had two assists, and Jessica Murdock totaled three digs.
Eagles defeat Montpelier
DUNKIRK — West Jay’s teams each came away victorious Thursday against Montpelier. The eighth graders took a 25-12, 25-18 win, and the seventh graders picked up their first victory 25-19, 6-25, 15-10.
Keri VanSkyock carried the eighth grade team with 18 points, 11 of which came in the first game. She also had a pair of kills.
Brittany Muhlenkamp had four kills, and Kylee Bell added four points.
Breanna Dahlstrom had 13 points, including eight aces, to lead the Eagle seventh graders. She was also one of five players to finish with two kills.
Also adding two kills were Denia Hough, Ashley Franklin, Mallory Levassur and Winona Westlake.
East Jay splits pair
The East Jay eighth grade team fell 25-21, 23-25, 15-5 to Muncie Wilson Thursday after scoring a 25-21, 25-11 victory over Hartford City a day earlier.
Lindsey Wellman had team highs of 12 points and five kills in the loss to Wilson. Liz Walker finished with six assists, and Lacey Randolph had four digs.
Wellman and Kelsey Wood keyed the win over Hartford City as they each scored eight points. Wood also had four kills and four digs, and Wellman finished with five aces.
