Reynard seeded sixth in hurdles (05/24/07)
JCHS boys track
FORTVILLE - Until this season Brandon Reynard had not even competed in the hurdles at the high school level. Now, he has a chance to go to the state finals.
Reynard will be the Jay County boys track team's highest-seeded athlete, based on sectional results, when the Patriots compete today at the regional meet at Mount Vernon.
The sophomore, who was strictly a sprinter a year ago, is seeded sixth in the 300-meter hurdles. He won the race at the Muncie Central sectional in 40.51 seconds.
The No. 3 seed in the regional is Perry Meridian's Alex Johnson, who ran a 39.44 in sectional action.
The top three finishers in each event earn a state berth.
Jay County doesn't have a single-digit seed in any of the other events at Mount Vernon.
The next best seed behind Reynard is Dexter Shreve in the high jump at No. 11 after he placed third in the sectional at 6 feet even. Andrew Lancaster is 13th in the shot put following his sectional-winning toss of 42 feet, 5 inches.
Other individuals competing at Mount Vernon will be Sean Hatzell at 14th in the 200 dash and 16th in the 100 dash, Reynard 15th in the 100 dash, Lancaster at 15th in the discus and Travis Theurer at 16th in the discus.
Theurer finished short of a regional berth in the sectional in fifth place, but advanced when one the athletes who finished in front of him was scratched from the regional meet.
Jay County's two relays at the regional are each seeded 15th. The team of Reynard, Hatzell, Lance Franklin and Ruben Vela will run in the 4x100, and Reynard, Hatzell, Franklin and Shreve will compete in the 4x400.[[In-content Ad]]
