JCHS boys track

MUNCIE - No one was better than Brandon Reynard.

The Jay County High School senior set a new meet record in the 300-meter hurdles, keyed two winning relays and won the Ham Rigg Award Saturday at the Muncie Relays hosted by Muncie Central. His effort helped the Patriots to a fourth-place finish in Class A at the eight-team event.

JCHS finished with 63 points while Huntington North (102) edged Anderson Highland (96) for the title. The Patriots were ahead of sections foes Muncie Central, Muncie Southside and Delta.

Reynard dominated the 300 hurdles, the event in which he placed fifth in the state last season. He blew away the field with a Muncie Relays record of 38.92 seconds, shattering the previous mark of 39.4 set by Justin Pugh of Kokomo in 2006.

In the sprint medley relay, Reynard, Dexter Shreve, Ben Vance and Dalton McGill teamed for a winning time of 1-minute, 36.77 seconds. Reynard, Kyle Simmons, Joe Rasmussen and Tevan Nichols were first in the distance medley in 11:44.66.

Reynard added a runner-up effort in the 100 dash with a time of 10.68. His performance earned him the Ham Rigg Award, which is given to the most outstanding athlete at the Muncie Relays.

The Patriots earned a third relay victory in the 4x800 with Simmons, Rasmussen, Nichols and Brady Mills crossing the finish line in 8:29.87.

Zach Cash was fourth behind Reynard in the 300 hurdles with a time of 42.37, and Shreve finished fourth in the long jump at 20 feet, 5 5/8 inches.

Shreve, Simmons, Mills and Rasmussen were fourth in the 4x400 relay in 3:43.45.[[In-content Ad]]
