The Portland Rockets got on the board early Wednesday and never stopped scoring.
Portland dominated at home, blasting the visiting Van Wert American Legion team 12-0.
Taylor Gage had two hits in his first action of the season for the Rockets (16-6), who scored twice in the first inning and pounded out 13 hits for the game. Ian Sanders and Jay County High School graduate Heath Williams also had two hits apiece.
Ethan Tribblet made the start, striking out six batters while allowing just one hit in three scoreless innings. Josh Atkinson (JCHS) gave up just one hit in four innings of relief to earn the win, and Andy Hughes (JCHS) and Chad Geier each tossed one scoreless inning to finish the game.
