Rockets explode against Dirty Birds

The Portland Rockets cleaned up against the Decatur Dirty Birds Tuesday, pounding out 19 hits in a 15-5 blowout.
The Rockets (12-9) exploded in Decatur, finding an offensive groove and piling on hit after hit. Twelve Rocket players recorded at least one hit in the win as the team combined for 19 on the evening.
Jay County graduate Josh Ludy led the Rockets in his second game with the team, unloading three hits, including two off-the-fence doubles, and driving in three runs.
Jensen Paint, Brandon Van Matre, Tyler Schroeder and Nick Bruns all added two hits apiece as the offensive onslaught rolled over Decatur.
Painter, Ethan Trioblet and Tyler Mills kept the Dirty Birds at bay from the mound, holding Decatur to five runs on six hits.
The Rockets will be back in action Sunday at 1 p.m. in Portland.
Men's league champs
The team led by Jay County graduate and IU-East player Tyler Rigby won the Jay Community Center's 5-on-5 summer men's league tournament 65-62 Tuesday.
Rigby's squad edged out the Jay Community Center team 65-62 for the league win. Rigby (2006), 2004 Jay County graduate Dustin Overton and teammates from IU-East comprised the team.
They toppled the JCC team, led by former JCHS varsity players Scott Bruggeman and Clint Muhlenkamp.
West Jay soccer
Caden Green netted four goals for the Sting Rays in a 8-2 victory over the Sharks in an Ocean Division matchup Tuesday.
Down 1-0 after the half, the Sting Rays turned on the offense and scored eight goals in the back end of the game to take the victory. Green put in four, Logan Kelley added three goals and Amaya Bradshaw chipped in a score for the Sting Rays. Jesse Nuckols had two goals for Sharks.
In other Ocean Division action, the Squidz edged out the Whales, 4-2. Pacie Denney and Graiden Miller each had two goals for the Squidz and Zacheriah Throop had both scores for the Whales.[[In-content Ad]]
