Rockets finish 2-2 in Kokomo (06/26/06)

KOKOMO — The Portland Rockets split their four games at this weekend’s Kokomo Shootout.

The Rockets went win, loss, win loss, defeating the Northwest Patriots 3-0 and losing to the host Kokomo Saints 5-2. They split a pair of games against the Evansville Outlaws with a 10-4 victory and a 2-1 loss.

Eric Van Matre struck out nine and gave up just four hits in the shutout win, and Matt Ousley allowed just one run in five innings to score the victory over Evansville.

Derek Lehrman continued his hot streak with a couple of hits over Kokomo, and Devin Lee had a two-run single.

Lehrman also had three hits as the Portland offense found its groove against Evansville. Lenny Koesters, Matt Steinke and Jay County graduate Mitch Waters each added two hits apiece.

The Rockets are now 11-4.

Lee leads Tigers

DUNKIRK — Zaaron Lee made sure the Tigers would take over first place.

Lee scored eight goals to complete a 2-0 day for the Tigers in the West Jay Community Center Summer Soccer League Saturday. His team topped the Cheetahs 4-3 and the Jaguars 9-0. In the other game the Jaguars edged the Cheetahs 2-1.

Seven of Lee’s goals came against the Jaguars, and Hunter Miller added two. Miller led the team with three against the Cheetahs.

Keelei Bell, Connor Davis and Sabreena Ferguson each had three for the Cheetahs.

Matt Fisher, Jesse Gallardo and Omie Weekley posted single tallies in the Jaguars’ win.
