Rockets go 3-1 against SB

MISHAWAKA - The Portland Rockets continued their hot streak this weekend, going 3-1 against the South Bend Senators.

The Rockets narrowly missed a sweep, falling 8-7 in 10 innings in the final game after posting 8-6, 7-0 and 3-2 victories. The team has won nine of its last 11 games and is 18-10 overall.

Eric Van Matre, Ethan Tribolet and Jensen Painter earned the wins, with Tribolet turning in a shutout on just three hits in Saturday's second game. He struck out nine batters. Daniel Bollenbacher, a South Adams High School graduate, earned saves in the openers on Saturday and Sunday.

Jay County High School graduate Josh Ludy smashed two home runs, including a grand slam, in Saturday's action. Heath Williams (JCHS) had three hits Sunday, and Ryan Shell notched three Saturday.

Painter and Bryan Brudi each added two hits Saturday.

Wellman leads wins

Billy Wellman, a Jay County High School graduate, led the Muncie American Legion baseball team to a 16-5 victory this weekend over Carmel. The squad also defeated Anderson 11-1.

Wellman had a huge game at the plate in the opener, racking up four hits. He drove in five runs.

Denney scores two

Pacey Denney made the most of his time on the field Saturday in the lone West Jay Community Center Summer Soccer League game to finished before the storms.

The Squidz fell behind 1-0 before Denney scored twice to rally them to a 2-1 win over the Sharks. Quinn Faulkner scored the lone goal for the Sharks.[[In-content Ad]]
