The Rocket offense has hit its stride.
Portland racked up its season-high run total Tuesday, including seven in the second inning, as it clobbered Logo This (Taylor University) 15-8.
Nine Rockets accounted for 12 hits, including two each from Chris Gottschall and Jay County High School graduate Tom McCowan. Gottschall drove in four runs.
Jensen Painter, who handled starting pitching duties, drove in three runs, and Cameron Branock scored three times. Heath Williams and Josh Ludy, both of JCHS, scored two runs apiece.
The season-high 15 runs gives Portland 34 in its last three games.
Josh Atkinson (JCHS), South Adams High School graduate Daniel Bollenbacher and Tyler Painter pitched in relief.
Wellman honored
Jay County High School graduate Billy Wellman was selected to play in the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association North/South All-Star Game.
Wellman, who hit 22 career home runs for the Patriots, will represent the North team in Saturday's game at Evansville's Bosse Field at 11 a.m. He hit .464 for JCHS this year with nine home runs, 32 hits and 34 RBIs.
The Ball State recruit also came up big for the Muncie Chiefs American Legion baseball team Tuesday as it defeated Seymour 7-5. Wellman's pinch-hit sacrifice fly in the sixth inning drove in the game-winning run.[[In-content Ad]]
