Rockets split Sunday (06/02/08)
Portland Rockets
ANDERSON - After the start to the 2007 season, a split in the season-opening double-header Sunday was a blessing.
The Portland Rockets dropped their first game 4-1 to the Anderson Warriors, but bounced back with a 16-0 victory in the second game. The team lost its first 10 games last year, but went 21-10 the rest of the way.
Jay County High School graduates Mitch Waters and Josh Atkinson took care of mound duties in the Portland victory. Waters faced just three over the minimum before handing the ball over to Atkinson to close the game.
Heath Williams (JCHS), Cory Benbow and Chad Geier all had multi-hit games for the Rockets, who took a 5-0 lead and then blew the game open with a seven-run sixth inning.
Williams and Benbow were the only Portland players with hits in the opener. Garrett Weijak took the loss.
